Chilblaine Winters
Fort McMurray, Alberta
Chilblaine first began putting pen to paper for lyrics in 2015 that 12 months later become the material for his debut album North Delta Blues. Joining Abasand Band just prior and together writing a song titled “Wet Dog” quickly gave Chilblaine the confidence he needed to realize the possibilities. 2 years later the album Hard Sway was released and an EP titled Six Three. The history & geography of Northern Alberta has provided him with many themes and story lines. 10 years in Nova Scotia and roots in Southern Saskatchewan round him out. Not shying away from a passion for Jack London novels or influences like Hoyt Axton, Townes Van Zante, Tom Russell, Colter Wall and William Elliott Whitmore he provides a type of savage beauty Canadiana. Whether running a sled dog team, looking out from a fire watch tower or canoeing past northern sand dunes towards one of the oldest fur trading posts in Canada, Chilblaine writes about his surroundings past & present. Some are musings while others are true stories like the 2001 murder of Jarrett Jabs during a riot in Drumheller Penitentiary or the railway scandal from Lac La Biche to Waterways in 1910. - Chilblaine Winters
